Grade Calculator FAQ
How do I calculate my weighted course grade?
Enter each component such as homework, midterms, and the final exam with its score and weight. The calculator multiplies each score by its weight and sums the results to produce your overall grade.
What score do I need on my final exam?
Use the reverse mode: enter your current grade, its weight, the final exam weight, and your target grade. The calculator solves for the exact exam score required to reach your goal.
Does it convert percentages to letter grades?
Yes. Percentage results map to standard letter grades on the common A through F scale, including plus and minus subdivisions used by most institutions.
How do I convert percentage grades to a 4.0 GPA?
Map each letter grade to its scale point (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on, with pluses and minuses at 0.3 steps at schools that use them), then average weighted by each course's credit hours. A syllabus or registrar page usually lists the exact mapping your school uses — variants differ at the edges.
What if my category weights do not add up to 100%?
The calculator normalizes: it divides your earned weighted points by the weights entered so far. That is why a 95% average with only 60% of coursework recorded is not a final grade — the remaining 40% will move it. Entering every category keeps the projection honest.
How do point-based and percentage-based grading differ?
They are mathematically identical: points earned ÷ points possible is a percentage. The practical difference is bookkeeping — in point systems every assignment's max points is its weight, so a 200-point final dwarfs a 10-point quiz without anyone declaring a percentage weight.
