SIP Calculator FAQ
What is a SIP (Systematic Investment Plan)?
A SIP is a method of investing a fixed amount at regular intervals (usually monthly) into a mutual fund or other investment. It averages your purchase cost over time, benefits from compounding, and removes the need to time the market.
How is the SIP future value calculated?
The calculator simulates your investment month by month: each contribution is added at the start of the month and the whole balance earns 1/12 of the annual return every month. This matches the standard annuity-due formula FV = P × [((1+i)^n − 1)/i] × (1+i).
What is a step-up SIP?
A step-up (or top-up) SIP increases your monthly contribution by a fixed percentage every year, typically matching salary growth. For example, with a 10% step-up, a $500 monthly SIP becomes $550 in year two, $605 in year three, and so on — significantly increasing your final corpus.
What return rate should I use?
Historically, diversified equity mutual funds have returned roughly 10-12% annually over long periods, while debt funds return less. Use a conservative estimate: your actual returns will vary year to year, and projections are not guarantees.
